Sometimes I feel like I’m using cheat codes for this thing. As I mentioned in my last post, Janine and I share nearly all the same food allergies. So for the last 4 years, we’ve been keeping any eye on anything with dairy or eggs. Only then, I ate what I wanted while being conscious of what Janine ate. Now, I have to suck it up as well.
But I’m making it work.
I’ve just completed the first week of this diet. I’ve been forced to cut out all dairy, all eggs, and reduce my wheat and gluten intake. I actually did quite well. It wasn’t quite as hard as I thought it would be and I didn’t feel many of the detox side effects I was warned about. I felt a little tired but that was about it. I was actually wondering if I was even making a difference? Was this even necessary? But I told myself I’d find out after the three weeks when I had to eat the foods again to see how my body reacts. Little did I know, I’d find out sooner than that.
Friday night, my girlfriend and I took one of our students out to eat. For those of you who don’t know, Janine and I are part of the Langara Homestay program. We house students from other countries who are attending school out here. I had seen one of my Beachbody friends post a picture of his Chipotle dinner on Facebook and the craving hit me. I could totally do Chipotle – hold the cheese, no sour cream, piece of cake. But Janine and Jay wanted to try Noodlebox. So I was like, screw it, we’ll do both. Grab a noodle dish and a double chicken bowl. We can split it.
We’ve had Noodlebox in the past. It was on our approved list of foods for Janine that worked with her allergies. I scarfed down my bowl and then I finished what was left of the noodles. We then left to explore the mall. Within ten minutes I was experiencing stomach cramps like I had never experienced before. To the bathroom I went where I had plenty of time to google the allergy information for noodlebox. I’m sure you’ve already guessed that the noodles were egg noodles. I was in pain for the next twelve hours.
It’s funny, though. Just one week of the elimination diet and already my body had changed so much that eating eggs again had that much impact. I was told that it would take three months to get it out of my system. I can’t imagine what would happen then.
