Writing this series has been the best idea I’ve had since Killing Friends or my Zombie Vote Your Own Adventure series. After about a year of not writing anything, I’ve given myself a weekly deadline again. I work best when I have deadlines. But it’s definitely been a bit of a challenge.
For those of you who don’t know what I’m doing exactly, I’m taking Dungeons and Dragons sessions and turning them into stories from the perspective of my character. Each one has been averaging 8l words. We have a session every week and my goal has been to launch the story before the next session. As it turns out, a 3 hour D&D session can turn into a pretty robust story with a lot of information. The problem I’m running into is the same problem we all have with anything that’s worth doing: time.
We have our sessions on Thursday nights. I usually have a lot of dev work to do on Fridays, then the weekend hits, I want it up Wednesday, so that gives me Monday, Tuesday, and maybe like half of Wednesday to write it. Loads of time, right? It just doesn’t seem to work that way and I end up doing a massive writing stint on Tuesday or even Wednesday. This leaves me no time to edit which is pretty evident in what I’ve been posting.
I love these stories and I feel they have huge potential but I worry about the quality. So I’ve decided to give each episode a little more time. I’m still shooting to write it by the Wednesday after, but then spend a few days editing and launching the following week. Which is why there was not episode this week. You’ll see it Wednesday.
I hope that by doing this, I’ll feel better about what I’m putting on the internet and you will have something better to read!
So what do you guys think so far? Are you enjoying Malice’s adventure? We had another session last night and things are getting really interesting and a lot of fun. Unless I get her killed, we have a lot more content to come.
